The side hammered Ukraine 4-0, recorded a 3-1 victory over Tunisia and needed the one goal to see off Saudi Arabia to meet the hosts France in the round of 16. Spain took the lead through David Villa's penalty but Franck Ribéry pulled on back for France. The French left it late but eventually scored the goals to see them through with Patrick Vieira and Zinedine Zidane making it 3-1
